Heading South - Germany, History and Pelicans

Having enjoyed ourselves for a few days in Adelaide, we were ready to hit the road. We hired a car and headed South. Our first stop was a small German settlement called Hahndorf. Germans were the first settlers in this area in the late 1800s and it was pretty bizarre walking round the German shops and you had to remind yourself you were in the middle of Australia especially when we had Snitzels for lunch served by a guy in "Leider Hosen"!

Our next stop was at a small place called Talem Bend a replica of a 19th century built by relocating old buildings from the area in one place. We felt like extras in a Western wandering round the dust covered streets and old buildings - sadly the saloon wasn't open.

We finally stopped at a place called Meningie, a small town just in land from the coast right next to Lake Albert. We stayed in a caravan park right on the edge of the lake and were treated to a cracking sunset and a passing Pelican - it was magic!
