The first European landing place

Text written in: English

This morning we left Kerikeri and the blueberries. We were sad to leave such a lovely family especially with so much work still to do but we have to keep exploring. We took loads of photos and then went off in search of a history lesson.

Waitangi is where the first white people settled and also where the Treaty of Waitangi was signed - an agreement between Queen Victoria's Government and the Maori chiefs. It was very interesting to see the treaty House, the Whare Runanga (Maori meeting house)and the War Canoe. The Maori carvings are spectacular.

That evening we headed back to Kerikeri as we wanted to travel north the next day and so for our last night there we found a B&B for the same price as hostels but with an en-suite room, tv, electric blanket and a cooked breakfast in the morning.
