We started work at 8am this morning and weeded 2rows of blueberrys so by 1pm we were knackered but determined to make the most of our afternoon. Unfortunately showering and eating lunch took ages cos we were aching loads and caked in mud from head to foot.

We were on the road by 2pm and decided to go to Russell after being told by a mechanic in Auckland it was worth a visit - we don't just take advice from anyone!

We drove to Paihia and saw the ferry (tiny boat) waiting so jumped aboard along with the one man and his dog who captained the ferry, totally forgetting to check and see if we had to pay to park so fingers were crossed!

Russell is so cute and oldie worldie with lots of the original buildings from when it used to be a sailors drunken haven - similarities are drawn between here and Kings Cross! You would never guess now though as it is lovely and sleepy! We went to the oldest Church in New Zealand - Christ Church which was beautiful and then as we were walking back down the high street we bumped into a girl taking her pony for a walk! She had tied it to a bench to make a phonecall and the pony had tried to drag the bench down the street- no one but us batted an eyelid!

We checked out the shops then caught the ferry back to find our car safe and sound with no clamps!! What were we worried about.
