Our last day in Hong Kong and what to do? We decided to check out the Bird Market and the Flower Market.
The flower market was a street of only florists and there was so much colour it was beautiful. Being so close to Valentines day there were some amazing bouquets and loads of roses, most of the roses had little plastic hoods round the buds to protect them and these were contrasting colours to fit in with the bouquets- it is a real art. There were also valentine chocolate bouquets - a whole buch of chocs on stems just as ornately wrapped. we saw loads of girls carrying these yesterday. Well taking me to look at all the pretty shops was the closest Ricky got to buying me flowers.
The orchids and exotic flowers were all so delicate and brightly coloured there were shops who just specialised in Venus flytraps!
At the end of the street was the Bird Garden and Bird Market. Here there were loads of little old chinese men with their small wooden cages with little birds in them. They all gather here and bring their birds with them for fresh air - it was a very traditional image!
The garden had a bird market at the other end and we had never seen so many birds. There were walls of tiny cages stacked up each with a bright yellow or red or blue or green bird for sale and then there were bigger cages with 50 or 60 birds all climbing over one another. The range of birds was huge and the colours were straight out of a rainforest. An eye opening sight, the way pets are sold here is so different from anything we are used to.
That night was our last night and Claire took us to a Sushi restaurant. It was nearly as fun to order as to eat but luckly the menu had pictures! The food was yummy and we decided Sushi is just as good as the Dim Sum Claire had made us sample earlier. It was a lovely evening and end to Hong Kong.
