The Place of Jacobs Creek & many other good wines - Day 90 of 104
After staying with Margaret and Keith and sampling so many (and so Much!! Thanks Keith!) good wines we left Adelaide and headed to the Barossa Wine Region. On Sunday we had breakfast and then went in search of Jacobs Creek!!! It had to be done seeing as we drink so much of the stuff at home!!!
To start with there really is a creek, that was exciting as it even had water in it, a real miracle in the heat of OZ. We checked out the Visitors Centre to grasp the history behind the wine and then moved to the important bit the Wine Tasting. We tried a wide range (a lot!!) including the just been launched sparkling Rose imaginatively called 'Rose'. Taking the guide books advice we worked our way gently through the rose onto the Reds and then desert wines. You will be pleased to know we were slightly more restrained when it came to purchasing!!
Now we were getting into the swing of this relaxed Sunday afternoon atmosphere so we took Stimpy on a tour of some of the other wineries, we may not have looked the part but we got treated like we were about to buy the whole cellar, it was great!
We went to Peter Lehmans winery in a gorgeous lakeside setting with tasting on the lawn, his logo of the Queen of Clubs (the gamblers card)is depicted differently on every bottle and there is an eyeopening art display of the labels. Finally we went to Barossa's oldest winery Yalumba the makers of Oxford Landing!!
After all this tasting we found a gem in the middle of the vines, a Bistro serving Roast dinners (ok so not a patch on Nanny's) and soaked up the wine!!! Now we remember what Sundays should be like!!
