A working mining town

Text written in: English

Today we just drove and drove, we were driving in convoy with Graham & Wayne from Tennant Creek a sensible idea through the bush execpt they wanted to drive at 150KPH and could in their fancy rental campervan and we wanted to stay on the safe 100KPH! Through the bush they have 'Driver Surivors' which are rest stops with free tea and coffee to encourage you to stop and take a break - what a cool idea except you have to fight with the flies and VERY big Spiders to actually get your drink!

We finally made it for Mount Isa, a truly ugly town which fills the horizon for miles with mine shafts and slag heaps, it is still a working mining town unlike many in Oz but this means that most people work down the mines in the morning and run their own business or shop in the afternoon.

We had managed to break the mechanism which winds the drivers window up and down so decided to look around for a part. We found a mechanic with the part but he had to go and get it, we waited two hours then three then four he still hadn't got us the part and by this time we had had a McD brekie, checked our emails and done our shopping. Graham & Wayne had already moved on.
