Ok so the mechanic/cook/gardener is here and doesnt have the tyre we need but as you can't drive without a spare (did we illustrate that enough yesterday) we got a too big tyre with a patch up puncture which "would get us out of trouble" but thats about it!!
Now we set off for the BIG rock that everyone raves about! At the last filling station/cattle ranch/campsite/mini zoo which was over 1,000,000 acres we met some Germans who gave us their National Park passes worth $50, lucky as we have just had to buy all those tyres!!
Finally at 3pm we had out first glimpse of that rock and boy what a rock! We now understand the hype and why we risked life and limp to drive here. Uluru was unbeleivably amazing and we could not quite believe we were here. That Shania Twain song "looks like we made it, look how far we've come..." really should be our theme song on so many levels.
We went to the visitors centre, drove the 9km round Uluru, walked the Mala walk (past sacred Aboringinal sites) and then took up position at the sunset viewing spot to wait for 7:08pm when the sunset and the colours Uluru turned were unreal 115 photos later we found the Resort campsite and finally flopped.
The alarm went off at 5:45am and we dragged ourselves out of bed and drove to the Sunrise viewing spot where we waited for 6:43 and the equally amazing Sunrise. As we were driving back to get breakkie we spotted that the 'Climb' was open. Seeing as it is usually closed by 10am as temps are over 37'C (obviously when are they ever this cool?)this was a red rag to a bull and Ricky had to climb it just because it is not the thing to do, the Aboringinals ask that you dont! but then they are the people who started it (and opened the gates).
Luckily he arrived back at Stimpy in 1piece just! it was by far the hardest thing physically i have every done!!! but i am so glad that i did do it, unfortunatly there were 65 year old women climbing it too so i guess it could not have been that hard but bloody hell i am unfit !!!!!!
We finally got brekkie and then went to find the Olgas, 36 pillars of rock which would have once been a single rock bigger than Uluru. Next stop Kings Canyon, only a 300km drive away. Here is supposed to be a beautiful Canyon with pools and a 'garden of Eden', well put it this way half way up we (Nikki) decided to save our energies for the Grand Canyon so we treked back to Stimpy and went to cool off in the pool at the campsite.
