Sunday we got up early and we drove and drove and drove (oz roads go on for ever) until we finally reached Eden on the border of New South Wales and Victoria, we stayed in Eden overnight as we couldn't cross the border until we had registered Stimpy with the RTA ( their DVLA). Our camp site was by a beautiful lake and before Ricky cooked us a gormet dinner on our campstove we walked by the lake as the mist from todays lovely rain was settling, it was erire but cool.
Monday am we got up and registered Stimpy- he is now officially ours! We left Eden 10am and by 10.30 we had broken down ( Ricky broke him he drove fine for me!) one of the discs on the distributer shattered but luckily we are in Oz and people are so nice. Within 10mins 2 peopl had stopped one a fellow campervan driver offering us his mobile and one a Danish Mechanic Christian a fellow backpacker on vacation. Christian reasured us it was a simple problem easily fixed so he drove us back to Eden where our next problem was finding a part for a 30yr VW. The LADIES at the car parts shop had a old VW sitting on their ranch and drove us out their to see if it had the same part, unfortunately not, so they tracked down a VW specialist in Bega- 40km away back the way we had come from last night. Christian -the star, drove us there and we got the part out of one of the guys old VWs for a bargin price of $60!!! then Christian drove us back to Stimpy who was still in one piece and he fixed him for us. He then trailed us to the campsite to check everything was fine and all he wanted for his day of generosity was some beers and company, so we cooked him dinner. The least we could do when he had saved us a $300 towage charge to Eden let alone the repair costs.
