Ancient ruins and Luggage Gangsters part 2

Text written in: English

After our adventures in Cambodia, we decided that a little beach time was in order. We booked our bus from Bangkok to Koh Tao - one of the islands in the Gulf of Thailand - and we were soon on our overnight journey south to the sea and the sun. It was on the first leg of our bus journey that Kim noticed something odd about thw ay the guys on the bus were behaving, while everyone slept they kept checking and she said that she heard the sound of zippers and buckles being opened and closed. Sure enough when they unceremoniously dumbed us at the side of the road at 3.30 am to get the connecting bus my bag had been opened and reclosed improperly. When I confronted the guy about it his English took a distinct downward slide rather quickly and while I gt annoyed he claimed not to know what I was saying. Later on Koh Tao we say the sign that gives thius entry part of its name warning us that luggage gangsters are "in operation" I can;t imagine it to be a very lucrative criminal syndicate as anyone who leaves valuables in their luggage needs their head examined. At any rate an inexplicable three hour wait and a ferry ride later we were on the island and after getting a long tail around part of the coast we were checking into Sai Thong resort on a private beach with our very own hut on the beach - grand! We spent the days on the island doing not a great deal, though we did go on a snorkeling trip around the island, which was rather keen - lots of tropical fish a la finding Nemo and tons of really beautiful coral. Before we knew we were headed back to Bangkok (again!) for Kim's flight home. Three weeks seemed to go by in a flash. Next stop more parts unknown - Laos the most bombed country per capita...ever.
