Ok so since Brisbane much has happened and should have since its been about 2 weeks since I posted.
So I left Brisbane heading for a place called Hervey Bay to get on board my Fraser Island trip. On the way however I stopped at the Australia Zoo home of the famous Crocodile Hunter! And guess what, the man himself was there. Apparently he's never there but over the Easter holiday he opened a new attraction and so was there for a whole set of days in a row. So I lucked out and almost got to see him get mangeled by a bad tempered croc.
So I arrived in Hervey Bay and met my group for the Island trip, 6 Welsh lads and 2 guys and 2 girls from Ireland. Good group and we had a wicked time tooling around the island in a 4 by 4, I'm pretty confident that I can now drive a manual transmission vehicle. The whole island is sand and populated by Dingos - we basically camped, drank and went to really cool coloured blue lakes. Good times.
After Hervey Bay I picked up a couple of passengers for the next leg of the journey up to Airlie Beach. Kate from Canada and Rowena from Wales. We had planned to get to Airlie beach in 2 nights but we made a stop in Eungala national park for a night amid torrntial rain that ended up not letting up for 4 days. As a result the ford that had been passable the night before was now over half a meter deep and impassable. The result is that we got stranded at this awesome bush camp in the rainforest for 4 days. It was really cool until we began to run out of food.
Finally we made it to Airlie and after the quiet of the rainforest the party at the hostel was a bit overwhelming so after a night there I hit the road again. Finally after a night in a national park in my tent and some hiking today I am in Mission Beach - a few hundred K's south of Cairns about to go river rafting.
I have to say though that I'm really looking forward to my trip into the desert in a few days as the business and constant partying on the east coast is beginning to wear me down.
