After the farm, we packed back into the land rover and headed to Harare for the night. It looks to have been quite a city at one point but now looks a bit run down and as if no one has really looked after it for the last few years.
The next morning we headed for lake Kariba where Andy had been posted in the 1960's as a policeman. Arrived at the boat and man what a boat, 3 decks, 4 cabins, 2 motor launches, five star the whole way - I'd never seen anything like it.
Aside: You'll notice on the photos that the boat has Nashua written all over it. Terry owns the franchise for Nashua in Zimbabwe and because of the political situation has 100% of the market in....wait for it... PHOTOCOPIERS in Zimbabwe!! Nashua is the actually the brand name in Southern Africa for Ricoh. I cannot, it seems, escape photocopiers.
The 4 days we were there basically went as follows: up at 5 for coffee and toast, on the water at about 6 for fishing until about 10, then back to the boat for full English breakfast and then a kip and lounging until about 2.30 when tea and cake was served. At 3 back to the boat for more fishing until sundown and then, showers, snacks, drinks and then dinner followed by coffee and then bed. The food was amazing but there was so much of it we had to cancel lunch after the first day because the insisted on serving it an hour after breakfast.
Got into the swing of fishing and although we caught heaps of Breem that we later ate, we came up short and caught no Tiger fish at all - boo urns. 4 days later we returned to port after an awesome time fishing and days dominated by the thought, "why have water when you can have a gin and tonic or a beer."
