The long and not so winding road

Text written in: English

As you leave Norseman there are some sculptures of camels to signify the day when the Afghan camel trains crossed the Nullarbor plains.  So, like those before us we headed out across the vast space which crosses the Great Australian Bight.  It has to be said it's a hell of a lot easier these days.  There is a road! And at one point they even provide Australia's longest stretch of straight road which is 146.6kms long.  There by removing the inconvenience of having to go round bends.  Mind you it does drive you mad after a while.
The oasis at the end of the journey was Eucla which is a lot better than Norseman and has a good pub.  This is also where we met Tom, a guy from the UK who has lived here for 9 years and is away to get booted out, so he is doing some travelling first.
We also got visa checked by the cops, typical good guy bad guy routine.  The bad cop had Allan tagged as a serial criminal, and threatened us with possible deportation before doing a thorough check of the van for drugs and safety check too, apparently we have a bald tyre.  Fortunately he stopped short of an anal probe!!!!
