Cape Reinga

Text written in: English

Had to catch the bus for the Cape Reinga tour at 7:15am, but no worries there as I get up around 6:00am everyday. The trip started off very well we saw the Giant Kauri trees. Kauri trees are kind of like Red Woods, they grow super big and some are up to 2000 years old... that is not a typo 2000 is correct. Then as we were heading up north the bus broke down.... boo. Well another tour bus was sent to pick us up, but it only had space for like 8 people. So some people got on that bus, I was in the restroom so I didn't get on that bus. Well not getting on the bus was a blessing in discuise. They sent us a 10 seat tour van with like a private tour guy. Ok overall this was the best tour I have ever been on and as I discribe the tour you will understand why. First off we headed to 90 Mile beach, which is classified as a highway so cars and buses drive 100km on the sand down a beach. Just as an interesting fact 90 Mile beach is like 64 miles long. The name came from a farmer who thought cows could only walk 30 miles a day and it took him three days to walk the beach with his cows so he called it 90 Mile beach. If that wasn't cool enough on the beach was a dead whale, not that a dead whale is all that great but because I have never seen one it was pretty cool. Then we saw wild horses that live on the beach. Then we went to The Bluffs which is a cool clump of rocks on 90 Mile beach. We continued down the beach where we drove up a shallow river to 85 metre sand dunes. At the sand dunes we went sandboarding. Sandboarding is riding down a sand dune on a bodyboard. It was cool so I went 3 times.... everyone else went like once because the dune was "too hard to climb" according to them. Then we went Cape Reinga which is the tip of the north island. At Cape Reinga you can actually see the Tasman Sea and the Pacific Ocean crash into each other. Then we had lunch on a beach... uhhh the beach got to love it. Then we drove back to Paihia and we stopped for Fish and Chips, hmmm it was good very deep fried though. Then we went to a fruit stand with the best fruit and the best part is that the prices were less then the super market. Then back to the PiPi Patch at 6:00pm so the trip really was a day trip.
