Day 7 of the Contiki tour..Seville Sightseeing

Text written in: English

It's the day after Christmas and we have a whole day to do whatever we want in Seville, Spain. We were informed by our tour manager that most likely the shops would be closed, since it was a Sunday, but we hoped that wouldn't be true. We were missing the big sales back home and some of us felt like doing some shopping. We were able to sleep in a little later than usual and then after breakfast we met the rest of our group. A local guide took us around Seville by bus and we got off at the important sights.

We did a walking tour of the city and stopped for pictures at the Plaza de Espana. This place was built for the World Expo that was held in Seville and has been the backdrop for several films including "Lawrence of Arabia" and "Star Wars." We then went to Seville's bullring. I found that very interesting and learned that in Spain about 55,000 bulls are killed per year. In Portugal, the bulls are only "teased" and not killed. The bullfighting season is from March or April up until October. After that visit, we went all around town and discovered that indeed the shops in Seville were open the day after Christmas. Some people went off shopping and others went off sightseeing. For lunch, we went to a tapas bar and I tried some kind of Spanish sandwich which had pork and green peppers. It was really good. Afterwards, I was hoping to visit the Cathederal where the supposed 'remains' of Christopher Columbus are but the Cathedroal was closed. Alot of monuments were closed since it was a holiday weekend and the day after Christmas. Instead, I just went off on my own and explored Seville, walking through Maria Luisa Park and all around town. I didn't have to be back to the hotel until 7pm. I got a little lost on the way back but eventually found the hotel on my own. Dinner was at 8pm and our tour group surprised Michael who turned 20 years old with a birthday cake. He was getting ice cream and then the waitress lady came out with a chocolate cake and everyone sung Happy Birthday.

After dinner, about 10 of us went to Plaza de Cuba and went to a bar filled with locals. Drinks were only 2 euros which is pretty good. Then we went next door to a dance club called "Boss" but found that there was hardly anyone there. That was alright with us. Everyone danced and had a good time...

Seville is one of my favorite cities in Spain and I'd love to go back there during the summer. Here are some pictures...
