Our trouble-free cross-country 6 hour bus ride from Tumbes (Peru) to Guayaquil (Ecuador) saw some interesting changes. As soon as we were over the border into Ecuador, we saw lush green vegetation and tropical fruits in abundance. Pineapples, water melons, green bananas, coffee beans, papaya fruit were all piled up on the sides on the road - a pleasant change from the arid landscapes in northern Peru.
A brief one nighter in Ecuador's biggest city before flying out to the Galapagos Island of San Cristobal in the hope of finding a reasonable last minute boat tour. The planes normally fly to the main central island of Santa Cruz, but the islands's Baltra airport
is shut for 2 months for repairs. The airline doesn't provide a transfer service to the island, despite charging loads of money for the flight.
