Getting to Stewart Island was a helluva t'ing

Text written in: English

We wanted to fly standby in the morning to Stewart Island but they had been cancelling flights all day because it was so windy. We had about given up in the evening because the wind seemed to have picked up, but apparently the Stewart Island Flights people are perseverent folk. They called our cell phone at 5:00 and had us up in the air in a ten-seater aircraft an hour later. The flight was terrifying -- the little plane was being buffeted from all sides by the wind and our course seemed to be whichever direction the plane could point itself in against the wind. Even Cat, who is completely unperturbed by the notion of flying, was white-knuckled and biting her lip. Matt just sort of closed his eyes and waited for it to be over.
We made it, though, in one piece (with the possible exception of Cat's stomach, which she's quite sure we left in Invercargill).

The pilot -- we'd hoped that person next to him was a co-pilot, but we're pretty sure it was just some chick he wanted to impress. Stewart Island from the plane. Matt getting out of our little plane ... very relieved.
