Southern Scenic Route #3

Text written in: English

Highlights of the day included the southernmost part of the South Island (chasing a few sheep along the way), two fat sea lions napping on the beach, and some beautiful bush walks. Matt's favourite part of the day, though, was when Cat fell in a bog.
We did the 20-minute nature walk at Lake Wilkie, which was interesting because of the information posted along the walk, explaining why different plants were found in certain areas and not others. The walk went through a really marshy area, so there were boardwalks to use. Catherine was particularly engrossed in taking a photo of some of the native bush reflected in a marsh toward the beginning of the walk, and took an extra step left to frame it better -- right off the boardwalk and into the bog. When Matt had finished laughing, he helped her out. Even Cat found it funny -- and so did the other people on the walk.
The picture turned out pretty well, anyway.

This sea lion kind didn't want to wake up -- kind of like Cat in the morning. Discounting the blubber, thank you very much. This area was so windswept that most of the trees looked like this. The photo Catherine was trying to take when she fell into the bog. Cat's pants were pretty wet after she fell into the bog. Cat's pants were pretty wet after she fell into the bog.
