Sailing with Ball of Dirt's CEO

Text written in: English

So a few days ago we got an email from Gerald Speers, who runs this website. He said he was in Auckland and why don't we get together for a drink and a chat? Well, we like drinks and chatting so we gave him our mobile number and promptly forgot about it. So then it's a pleasant Sunday in Auckland and we're sitting on swings, eating Tim Tams and trying to decide what to do with our day. We had just decided to climb Mount Eden to get a view over Auckland when our mobile rang. It was Gerald, asking what we were up to. We said nothing, he said come sailing, so, figuring he was either really fun or insane, we got in our car and went.
We didn't really know what to expect with this deal. We figured that being a CEO and named Gerald, this guy was probably kinda old and portly, with wire-rimmed glasses and a big red nose from too much booze. As it turned out, the portly thing is debatable, so we were at least half-right. And as it turned out he's really fun and not insane (well, not in a dangerous way, anyway).
The day turned out to be beautiful and we spent it in an uncommonly pleasant way, with Gerald and a bunch of his friends, who plied us with food and drink, let Matt steer, and even had amusing offspring running around being entertaining. All in all, it was an A+ day.

No, no, Gerald. We only need ONE glass of wine at a time. Matt gets to make the boat go! Or at least decide which direction it goes in. It's hard to keep the horizon straight on a boat, okay? Gerald contributes to our new nobly-looking-off-into-the-distance series. Matt before jumping into the water. Matt diving off the boat. Gerald diving off the boat. Undaunted by his lack of swimming trunks, Matt went swimming in his shorts. Gerald enjoys throwing children off boats. Quickly-moving boats. Okay, maybe it wasn't exactly moving quickly. Or at all. Gerald and Nick attempt to decide who has supremecy in a contest of wrasslin'. Guess who won. That was some cold water, that was.
