Agra

Text written in: English

After Varanasi, we flew to Agra.

Photos / videos of "Agra":

Dana, Kristin, and the doorman at our hotel! (Not in that order; the doorman is in the middle) The gate to the Taj Mahal which by itself is nicer than anything in Swan River, Avonlea, or Regina. Kristin, Dana, and Derwin outside the gates to the Taj. In case you were wondering, Kristin (far left) is 6'1 Taj Mahal. 20,000 people worked on this wonder of the world. After they were done, many had their hands or thumbs amputated so they could no longer build buildings that were as beautiful as the Taj. Derwin, Dana, and Kristin in front of the Taj Mahal at dawn. Another view of the Taj which is built on a marble platform. Built by Emporer Shah jahan in 1631 as a monument for his second wife, Mumtaz Mahal. The Taj was completed in 1653. Close up of the Taj. The four corner minarets are deliberately built leaning outwards. If they were to fall, they would not fall inwards onto the Taj. The Taj has thousands of semi-precious jewels inlaid in the white marble. Text from the Koran is written vertically on the Taj. The engineers had it written so that the text at the top is larger than the text at the bottom. This gives the effect that all the text is the same size. Other visitors to the Taj. More visitors to the Taj. The women wear bright clothing to signify that they are happily married. Makes me wonder why Dana wears a lot of neutral colors? Dana at the Taj. Agra Fort built by my favorite Mogul emperor (and I'm sure that he is your favorite too) Akbar in the year 1565. Built of red sandstone, the walls are over 20m high and cover 2.5 km in circumference. Main gate to Agra fort.
