Our trip up north

We decided to travel up by plane to the northern-most city in Chile, Arica. We were here for several days, and saw everything from the dry desert beach to the dry desert mountains, and dry desert plains. I don't think I can emphasize dry enough - but the pictures do. Notice there's nothing living unless it's in a valley fed by an underground stream.

Photos / videos of "Our trip up north":

This bluff was the site of the base in Arica that helped repel Peru not too long ago. It looks directly over the waterfront street and 3 beaches This is another sight from the waterfront street (name?) too bad the wind wasn't blowing Cotton - imitating the statue in the background (don't quit your day job...) In this picture you can see on the hillside the These guys are not quit as old as the art in the background... What? So it was a puppy, and it was cute! Does that make me less of a man? The wind was blowing this time -- this was taken at the top of the bluff overlooking the ocean The beach - on another day, surfing would have been great up close and personal with the bluff. Another up close and personal shot - same bluff. If you look carefully, you can see something. Look haaarder. J-P finds the coolest stuff. The old guy (not J-P) makes all the stuff that's sold in shop - wood trinkets and toys for children and god-children. flower
