Cerámica de Pucallpa

Text written in: English

After being in Lima for the Rueda de Negocios, I left last Thursday on an afternoon flight to Pucallpa, which is a good starting point to get on the Río Ucayali, which flows towards Iquitos.  I was met at the airport by one of the guys that works at the tourism / artesan office and he showed me around the city for a few hours.  The next day I met up with Julio, who is working with the promotion of exports in Pucallpa.  We visited a nearby ceramics community called San Franscico, which we had to travel by boat to get to.  The ceramics from the selva are quite different from those of Chulucanas, not only in design, but also in the process of making them.  I bought a couple of small pieces along with a tela (cloth designed by the local Shipibo Indians using natural dye) with colored designs.  I was hoping to get to stay in Pucallpa for at least 3 days, but the boats do not leave on Sundays for Iquitos, so I ended up cutting it short and left on Saturday.  I'll get back there one day......

Looking out of the window of the big bird... Rising up over the Andes Mountains. Bed of clouds beneath Descending into the selva Pucallpa from the sky View from my hostel in Pucallpa Closer view of the paintings Outside of CITE Ucayali. Their facilities dwarf ours from Chulucanas Also outside of CITE Ucayali....these structures are for the indians when they come in to participate in workshops Maroti-Shobo....a center for the association of artesans in order to sell their goods. Pressure was high for me to buy :-) Julio leading the way down to the boat in order to go to San Fransisco Aboard the boat to San Fran Our boat getting stopped by a patrol boat. Something about not having the proper documents in order to leave the port. We went back and the lady in charge of our boat talked to someone and upon coming back, hastily just said ¨Let´s go...they are crazy¨ Typical boat on the waters around Pucallpa Cerámic artesans (mother and daughter) in San Fransisco. Typical ceramics from Pucallpa And to add to the fun, no home is complete without your very own anaconda skin. Statue in the artesan plaza area of San Fransisco. You be the judge....
