30th Dec:
Hello, Just a quick catch up so far. Sorry Paul, u would have heard most of this already!
Had an ok flight but was just upset the whole way here after leaving Paul at the airport. I then got a taxi ($28.. my whole 4 nights accomodation is only $70!) haha, but i couldnt face the buses. Then i went to give the guys money and then i looked and i didnt have my wallet, so i was thinking sh*t i mustve left it the car.. walked into the hostel with tears in my eyes with this guy just kinda looking at me.. and then another local spanish guy whod seen me outside walked in and gave it to me.. dont even know what happned.. can u just imagine me! im such a dumbass!
anyways the flight was ok, flipping 10 hours or something we got here at 3, think we mustv only left at 11.20 ish. the top i was wearing made me all stinky so the poor guy next to me! haha!
I watched shark tale, quite good but a little disappointed, bad santa (kak) and the First Daughter (the girl from Dawsons Creek is in it). I also watched a show about the 1957 tour between SA and the All Blacks, coz i knew if Pail had been there he woulda loved it!
Anyways, been much harder so far than I thought it would be, mainly from being away from Paul. Will never last more than a few months at this rate. Its awful already being apart. Know i have to get into it still but it hit me earlier that before when i travelled by myself it was when i was single, and was thinking in a different mind set. Now I want to be with him and now im here by myself, missing him and everyone.
I was so exhausted after getting in last night that I crashed early as I was still in UK time so it felt like 12am for me when it was 7pm here.. so I woke up at 3.30! Im trying hard today to get into it, but can't be bothered if not awake for New Years 2moro! Today I made a booking for tomorrow to go on a tour of the Everglades, its half day so no idea what I will do in the eveing for New Years. Going to try and get hold of Andre La Grange (from EHS as he is apparently here somewhere).
Today I went to the mall, which was about an hour bus ride away and 2 hours back from the traffic. I watched a movie (National Treasure.. typical Nic Cage cheese) but ok and walked around the shops. I also went for a walk to the beach which is only 2 streets down.. but since its dreary weather, it wasn't great. Looks really pretty though. Theres all these amazing condos around there and the whoel way to the mall (along the beach).
Its a strange place. Firstly more than half the people are Spanish speaking, and I mean, they don't even understand English!Very strange to think I am in America, feels more like Latin America. There are a few dodgy characters around, but think I have my gaurd up more as there is no-one to look out for me so I am finding it hard to relax, always noting who is around me and where my stuff is. Not the relaxing time I was hopnig for! The place is quite nice though, the area of the hostel is great. The Art Deco district, so really funky. Anyways, better go as want to go to dinner with the one girl in the room who I have managed to catch.. although she is French and can harldy speak English! At this point though.. I am desperate for conversation!
Hope u are all well, miss you all terribly. All my love, Lyndsay
1st Jan:
Well the Everglades were pretty cool! I went on an airboat ride and crocodile hunting in the wild. There was a 'croc wrestling' show after that and I had my pic taken with the croc. We drove about an hour outa South Beach and passed an Indian reservation. Apparently the laws are different for the Native Americans, each tribe can have their own bingo and gambling halls to bring money. Quite surreal and bit sad to see these gambling halls there with the Indian name on them. Also the area had big tacky blow up Santas outside.. ah America!
Met a girl in my room after that (Lisa, from Alabama). Went out with her to meet some Austrian guys that she had met. We went for dinner at a sushi bar in a cool little pedestrian shopping are of Miami (Lincoln St) and I left them before 12 so didn't see in the New Years with anyone. Was ok though, am still adjusting to the time change.. and another one to come tomorrow when I go to Vegas!
Today I went with Lisa to breakfast before she left, divine pancakes and fruit (I'll hand it to the yanks.. they make good food.. trying to be healthy, have been but would be quite easy to pig out here). I then went to the beach.. finally some sun! Was great niot having a hangover on New Years! Sat and had a coke in some cool hotel with a swimming pool on the beach front being walking along the streets a bit more and having lunch and a few brewskis in the sun at a nice Italian. Things are looknig up!! Amazing what the sun can do! Had a tea at a Starbucks (oh England and their tea..!) and chilled out as leaving tomorrow for Vegas.
Really looking forward to it as Paul has booked me a night in New York, New York for the 2 nights (originally Ceasars Palace for one night but we decided to trade it in for the 2 nights (still in a swanky hotel) and a show instead)
Also, have decided to throw caution (and money) to the wind and go with Paul to NZ for his mates wedding! Why not hey! So I am going to buy a separate ticket and go out with him after San Fran! I am really so excited and now CANNOT wait! You will hear from me soon in Vegas!
Luv Linz
