Nazca (18 & 19 August 2004)

Text written in: English

In Ica the usual search of a bus company traveling my direction had to be done, wasting another 45 minutes or so. Finally I found Flores, a company with good buses and one leaving at 6:15. 6:15 means 7:30 because you can have nice schedules in your office, but if there are not enough people you just wait endlessly in these countries.

In the dark we drove to Nazca but it was probably more depressing desert anyway so I did not care. It might actually have been good for my mood. At the roundabout at the edge of Nazca (60.000 people) we stopped and got of the bus. As expected I was hassled by a zillion tour touts again trying to sell me a hostel or flight over the world famous Nazca lines. I tried the usual tactic, completely ignoring me and it was funny as they started following me for a few hundred meters while I was walking to the other bus terminals asking for information, while the touts kept mentioning that centro was not this way. Really? I know, idiots.

Of course there was only one nightbus to Cusco which means I would see nothing of the scenery. The company that runs more buses, Empreso Wari was a few kilometers from the city centre and not nicely grouped near the other companies. This country is so convenient for transport. NOT!

I checked in the first hotel as it had a good price of 20 soles, an excellent bed, hot showers, a swimming pool in a nice garden, great views from the roof, making the decision easy. This was by far the best value in town.

Time for dinner. I made the mistake of ordering chicken in a chickenrestaurant down the road, Pollo Rico. Well, I should have ordered a piece of chicken but wanted something different for a change and ordered the Brochetas de Pollo. Do not ever do that when you hungry because ittakes 40 minutes. Anyway, happy with my hotel I fell asleep after some internet and decided to sleep late and maybe enjoy the pool the following day.
