After almost two months in Bolivia we were finally ready to move on - in search of ancient cultures and better food (which we wouldn't be able to appreciate for some time due to the traveller's disease we picked up on opur last day in Bolivia...).
Crossing the border to Peru you are immediately aware of some changes: although Peru, too, is as very poor country, the children in the street are less dirty and their houses are in slightly better shape.
All we did in Puno was a trip to the Floating Islands to see the 'Uros' people. I have seen many touristy things in my life but this for sure tops them all... An interesting experience nevertheless- They live on 2m thick platforms of reef (not entirely sure about this word - better look it up...) which are anchored at the bottom of Lake Titicaca which, at this point, is about 30m deep. The first five minutes are great, given the experience of treading on soft ground and cute children, but after that the tiny, confined spaces somewhat lose their appeal.
Before going to Arequipa we went to see the fascinating, giant burial towers of the Wari culture in Sillustani.
