There are some destinations that travellers should put into a psychological box and not physically return to...that is the case of Boracay for me. I visited here in 1996 with other Peace Corps volunteers at the time. The place was heaven on earth...pure white sand beach beyond description, friendly locals, cheap prices, and an overall laid back atmosphere. The place couldn't be farther from that now.....it is amazing how the place has built up. I arrived today after some ok backpacking travel....took a plane to Kalibo yesterday from Manila (turned out to be cheaper than the Super Ferry which takes a day), spent the night in Kalibo where I had some rice and a rock was in the rice and as I bit into it the filling for my molar came out which was huge....waiting for the pain to start. I found a dentist on the island and have a number in case the pain begins in the middle of the night. I took a trike to the Jeepney station and then a Jeepney to Caticlan where I hopped on a banca boat over to Boracay where I had to take a trike to the main area of the island. At this point in my travels I am actually enjoying the journey. It seems that the journey for me at times is much more intriguing than the actual destination itself. One reason is that the destinations I have been going to aren't really off the beaten track thus the face of a foreigner is not new to people....people tend to look at you with money signs in their eyes...not all but many.
All is good. I am currently at an internet cafe on the beach where the sun is about to set. The weather is warm (actually hot...around 90 degrees) and the sky is blue....
