So Phitsanulok we depart and Tak we come. After a quick stop over at Sukhothai historical park. It was really quite easy
.catch the bus, negotiate a Tuk Tuk ride, hire a bicycle and there you have it.
Definitely the Lonely Planet is spot on when it says hire a bike for 20B. The park is beautiful and it does not surprise me that it is a world heritage listing. Hopefully photos will capture the full beauty of well kept grounds, perfectly aligned Wats sitting within a series of lakes. Despite the numbers of tourists, one could really unwind and relax while walking through the parks ruins. Stalls within the park were excellent providing wonderful food cooked before your eyes and charged at local prices.
It is inspiring the degree of precision for which these massive temples were built. Series of 3 or 4 islands align perfectly with massively heavy statues manoeuvred into position. Though life was made easier by the fact that lakes were dug out after the temples were completed. It would be nice to visit the park at night and see it under light. Would make for some stunning photography, similar to Ayutthaya.
Following the park, it was delightful to discover the bus stop to Tak and Chang Mai right outside the park. On closer inspection of the Lonely Planet, I decided against going to Tak figuring I may have trouble getting a set of wheels to do what I wanted to do, and I really needed to travel for several hours to get to the good national park.
Bring on Chang Mai!
