Surfers Paradise (no, really)

Text written in: English

Today Carrie, Sara, Laura, and myself went down to Surfers Paradise. It's kind of like the Aussie version of Miami Beach, but it was especially hopping as it was the weekend of the Gold Coast 100. The sound of Indy cars racing through the streets was constant in the background. Didn't add much to the relaxation theme, but it didn't stop us.

The beach was beautiful. Six foot waves in a perfectly blue sea. It definitely fit in to the protoypical Aussie beach.

Surfers a true tourist trap (did I mention the meter maids in gold bikinis??). High rise apartment complexes dominate the skyline, and there is an endless array of surf shops and tacky souvenier stands. But I did get a nice pair of Billabong board shorts so it's cool. The main strip is comprised of various bars, restaurants, and cafes. Supposedly the night clubs are open till 5AM, but I'll have to find that out some other time.

After a few hours of laying on the beach we took a walk around, grabbed a couple beers, and headed back up to Brissy. Perfect way to spend a Saturday

It's cheesy, tacky, and touristy....and I loved it! Sonny Crockett and Ricardo Tubbs would feel right at home.
