Thanks to British Airways for being stingey with blankets and water (the decadence of asking for patent luxuries!) - I got myself a nice fresh flu to welcome me to the northern hemisphere again... Staying with Paul and Jenny near Surrey Quays/Canada Water, I was surprised to find London a lot less depressing and crappy than my last visit (which was in September), despite it being the middle of winter... Paul is a chef and Jenny is also a great cook so I've been spoilt by the two of them pretty much non-stop while I've been here :o) London has been almost consistently cold, clear and sunny and there's a more positive atmosphere than when I was here last, probably cos I'm not in a hurry to do everything and wishing I wasn't there...
A bunch of us: P&J, Olivia, Tara and also two Andrews at Walkabout for Australia day. Walkabout are a chain of drinking holes of varying sizes and levels of debauchery with an Australian theme that are scattered about London, the UK and to a lesser extent in Europe in general. I had a Tooheys New and felt homesick for NSW for a minute...
A bunch of us also went out to the Comedy Club (which has relocated to Tottenham Court Road) and had a pretty good time. The show was hilarious, especially the butch girl "Jo-Jo" who I was too busy splitting my sides with laughter at to take any snaps of. Rest assured you didn't miss much (I had to say that since she said I "scrub up pretty well once you get rid of the smell of piss") :op The night was excellent and good value as it included a pretty decent meal (thai chicken curry, nice vege thingy, fish cakes etc) all for 15 quid. Wine was 15 quid per bottle, or 12 quid for four glasses (go figure). Maybe this was their way of having the last laugh...
