Ever since I arrived, Gerald has been pulling a sicky whenever the topic of going out comes up in conversation. Hence, most of my excursions so far hadn't really been worthy of mention in the context of nightlife.
That's not to say he hasn't been drinking. After all, the bar is only 20s walk away and sings to you very softly if you listen carefully and are attentive enough. I think the only way to force him out of the house would be to drink the bar dry. At least that's my excuse.
Fortunately just around the time when I was thinking of firing my nighttime cultural attaché, Roger came to rescue, who although superior in years to Gerald seems to be made of tougher stuff. We met up with some friends and former coworkers of his, a Canadian guy called Gordon and his German girlfriend whose name I've forgotten in the subsequent alcoholic haze. There was also the Chinese guys who are pretty good at partying, Mike, Wellington and their friends. It was Wellington who got us into Blowfish bar which is apparently only for the crème de la crème of Jakarta. This didn't mean much to be because I wouldn't recognise an Asian film/soap star if my life depended on it. The music was quite good, warming up to a dance music pace to the whoops of the crowd.
After Blowfish we went to several other bars whose names I've forgotten. Unfortunately the batteries on the camera ran out, so I didn't get a chance to get a photo of the biggest club I've ever seen. Not that a photo would really show much, it was about the size of a football field, if not bigger and kinda reminiscent of the Death Star inside.
Either way, Java seems to be in Class of its own... Things are developing nicely.
P.S. Gordon's girlfriend is Katrin. I just remembered.
