Almost time to depart

In many respects this feel like a normal day.  Ruth has gone to work whilst I have been left in charge of the school run.  However this is the last day of the school year and we are all heading off on our travels this afternoon.  The bags are packed, the cupboards are bare; it is time to commence our rail adventure.

As far as I am aware all the administration is complete, save for the journey from Belgrade to Istanbul.  The line was closed for a number of weeks due to flood damage and has only recently reopened (although not in full).  We are still trying to book rail tickets through an agency in Belgrade.  If this fails we will just have to wait until we arrive and hope we do not have to travel by bus!  I have gone off coach travel since the run from Namibia to Zambia in 2008.

I am due to pick up the children at 12 noon.  This will no doubt be traumatic as it is Erin's last day at primary school.  I predict a tearful farewell in the playground.  Where have the last seven years gone?

As soon as Ruth returns we will head for Central Station.
