Madrid - Retiro & Paseo Del Prado


We went to three art museums, the Museo Nacional Del Prado, the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, and the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza. None of them allowed picture-taking, so you won't see any pictures.

There are pictures of the Paseo del Prado, outside the Prado. Also pictures of the Parque del Retiro, and enormous park near the Prado.

Also, when we were in the train station we discovered a monument to the March 11th bombings in that station. I've included photos of the monument, and one of the tracks destroyed by the blast.

After being situated in Toledo and Valladolid, in the 16th century, the capital city of the Spanish Empire was finally established in Madrid. Madrid's fortunes have closely mirrored those of Spain. Modern Madrid came into its own after the death of the Fascist dictator Franco. Years of a brutal regime left Madrid and much the country in economic shambles due to isolation. With his death, Madrid and Spain as a whole began to re-assert itself on the international stage.
