Trans Sumatran Highway Part I

Text written in: English

After getting over to the bus depot I then had to do the normal and wait while they sorted out a bus, trying to find one which is going to the place you are going with a empty seat. Then got taken to their 'other office' on the main road and told the bus would be along in the next couple of hours, this after booking a ticket for a bus leaving at 1900. Got on to a bus at about 2000 in the end, which was good as it was going to take at least 16 hours to get to Bengkulu.

The bus then followed the Trans Sumatran Highway through the course of the night, this is a normal 2 lane road which just happens to run the length of Sumatra and is used by all the main traffic to get any where, while it is refered to as 'little more than a jungle - bound animal track for beasts who eat petrol'.

Arriving in a place called Lubuklinggau in the morning at around 0800, I relised we still had a couple more hours of traveling, we had to go over the Bukitbarisan mountain range, which was to take a good 4 hours or more including a stop for lunch, eventually arriving in Bengkulu at around 1400, 18 hours later after starting.
