My last day in London, so I got up earlier today - around 8:30 am and quickly headed for the Tower of London to discover it's history and the fact that it is still a royal residence even today. The Tower of London is quite amazing with all it's dark history around various monarchs - all those brought to the tower were brought through the River Gate (aka Traitor's gate). I think the worst for abusing his power at the Tower was Henry VIII - he had a number of his enemies and wives beheaded to remove them from opposing him. We also had the ability to view some of the royal jewels and a history of the armory.
I then headed on to the British museum to view many of the plundered artifacts. An amazing place with relics and antiquities from pretty much everywhere around the world. The areas of the world I was most interested in were, of course, the least represented, so I'll just have to go to those places sometime instead!! One of my favourite exhibits was a special exhibition around the history of money from its beginnings to today and the various items that were used at currency over time - not always precious metals.
I then just wandered around getting my last breath of London air (cough, cough - just kidding) before heading back to Mike's to head out for another pub night. I think my liver is starting to wonder what I'm doing to it, the poor thing. We met up with another of Mike's friends in a pub right beside the Pelican, a replica of Sir Francis Drake's ship that he took around the world - it's amazing they had that many men in such a small area - it didn't look much bigger than my old master bedroom!! Anyway, we had a couple cocktails, Mike's friend showed up, we continued on a short pub crawl, called it a night, then headed for home. I still needed to pack, so was up until 2am getting ready for the Eurostar in the morning.
QOTD: What are "Canada" Geese doing in England in the Queen's backyard? I am not related to these or the ones at home - these are lost and the ones at home are simply stupid ducks!!
