An appology is due. An appology appears.
Dear readers I must start this entry as a grovelling dog, a humble servant, a disfigured igor, a submissive housewife.
I have gravely neglected the diary and I can only say that I am truly sorry.
We made our way from France through the mountains, got stuck in a village after a train strike, arrived in Italy in the blistering sun. Jack left me in Turin and travelled to Venice to meet Jesse and Marie (two fellow explorers), I spent five days in Turin at a charming school up in the hills, then we re-joined as the four adventurers in Florence, a city of small proportions and great history. After spending a week in an apartment with double beds and time to relax, we moved onwards, Pisa, Siena, then Rome, the capital. Rome was busy, bustling, exciting and full of wonderful pizza. We picked our way through the ancient ruins and marvelled at the sistine chapel as well as several other fascinating museums at the Vatican.
Naples then Pompei - the preserved city with its sinister dead bodies and tourist info points. A hotel with a swimming pool and roman statues suficed as a base then we moved on to Salerno and the beautiful Amalfi coast. A week in a campsite up 1020 steps from the beach proved to be hugely social, fun and relaxing. Communal meals with some wonderful people and wine that tasted damned good. So much wine...
Bang - off again; on the road, Potenza then Castelmezzano where we flew between two epic mountains over a huge crevis on a zip wire. Incredible views. Then in Foggia, the managers of a brand new hotel create some merryment by putting myself and Jack in one of their best suites ,as the hotel was almost empty, for only 25 Euros! Massage shower, mini-bar, plasma tv, internet and lots of space kept us entertained for the night.
From Bari (the main port in the south of Italy) we travel to Corfu, mystical and beautiful, although the part of the island we see is rather different...cross-dressing parties and karaoke awaited us at the charmingly loud, garish 'Pink Palace'. Much fun was had however so I mustn't be synical.
We now find ourselves in Santorini, a wonderful island far south of Greece. The people are friendly, the mountains volcanic, the sand black, the drinks cheap and the hotel perfect. Time to relax before we head to the clubs in Eos...
