Never get too sure of yourself

Today was a travel day.   The plan was to get up, eat breakfast, call for a taxi at 9 am to get us to airport for 10:25 flight.  Since the airport was close, this was giving ourselves a lot of time.  Next step was to  get into athens, take the metro to a stop we knew, find a store we wanted to check out and then have lunch.  Back in plenty of time for 6:40 flight to Istanbul.  We knew this was doable because of our wide knowledge of Athens gained in the two days we were here.

 

The way it really went.  Breakfast, call for taxi.........uhm, taxi strike.  Being the seasoned travelers we are, we figured out the bus to take us to the airport.  (ok, so the hotel lady gave us directions and we still had to ask a perfect stranger where to buy the tickets, but hey, we made it to the airport.)

Found our check in gate......empty.   hmmmm   Walked over the the ticketing agent.......Flight cancelled and they have no more room the rest of the day.  Again, seasoned travelers that we are, we finally found another plane to get us into Athens.  This delay meant no trip to town.

Hung out in athens airport till time for our next flight, figured out how to use phone card only by asking kid on the phone before we were.  Went to our gate, sat and waited.......and delayed.  Seems there was also a pilots strike for this particular airline.  Borrowed a phone from yet another nice stranger to tell our hotel about delay.  Finally got into Istanbul at midnight.  Hotel seems nice.....and has internet!!!
