cuzco

Text written in: English

so. i found some time now. i arrived at cuzco yesterday in the afternoon. the  school picked me up at the airport and drove me to the family. i was a little surprised when the woman i'm gonna live with presented herself as patricia, when i was supposed to stay with a gloria.  i had all the information on them. the address, their hobbies etc. but patricia was a different person with different hobbies and children. hehe. well, i guess that's the way it works here.  but it's fine. they are really nice and they speak to me all the time. in spanish of course. which is really nice but i just don't understand it yet. so i just nod and say yes. i wonder how long it takes until they get bored... hehe. welll, no they are used to people like me i suppose.

the house is ok. the only thing i have to get used to is the not so warm shower... man. what a shock to wake up to in the morning!! hehe. that brings me to the weather. it is quite sunny and also warm in the sunbut really cold at night. and the house doesn't have a heating system... ohhhh. i know i'm swiss. but i still don't like to freeze.

cuzco lies at 3400 meter above sea level. and you can feel it. you would think from all the snowboarding in the high mountains you would be prepared but you're not really. ok, it's not so bad. just out of breath withing a very short time and a constant headache. so i drink a lot of coca tea which is supposed to ease the altitude sickness. we will see.

today i had my first spanish class. so let's hope to improve that spanish. oh. i met quite a few other girls who are travelling alone. which means a) i'm not crazy and b) i might hook up with them to travel further :-)

taxis are really cheap here. only 1.50 chf or so. which is good cause i live quite far away from the city center. today i even took the bus for 0.30 chf . ok, because the price is so low they just fill it up with whoever they find. it's really crowded. i felt especially sorry for the schoolkids. some of them were only like 5 years old...poor them. i guess you could fill a bus with about a 100 of them. and the drivers in this country they honk constantly. honkhonkhonk. but people don't care and cross the street at any time and any place. :-) i have to learn how to do that too. and they always drive in three lanes when there are only two! i don't know how it works but it seems to :-)

well, that's about all i can think of right now. trying to book some trips to other places. but i'll write more about that when it's confirmed :-)

all my love

bettina

@janice. Es hett glaub immer en sandro i dene sprachschuele. huahua...

@mat: on the plane yesterday i went back to the normal: no talking on plane- mode. so nothing has changed hehe...
