Curious place Toilets. It ended up being partially Toilet and partially really good and then having a nice surprise at the end!
As it was, B had the infamy of hosting our worst activity/ trip thing of the entire tour - 2 hours of watching a volcano covered in cloud only to discover that when said cloud cleared we had been looking at both the wrong cloud and the wrong mountain. The real thing was higher and even more covered in cloud than the lower peak. The experience was made all the less palatable by the presence of a nauseating adolescent playing grating Latino-indie covers on an acoustic guitar. I think this was meant to be compensation for the lack of volcano views but when he started playing 'Wonderwall' even our already distant earshot was too close!
That next day though...not too bad at all. We hiked the hills behind the town for a good few hours with great views of the valley and surrounds. We (G-kun) managed to mistake another cloud covered mountain for the same volcano (and have the photo evidence to prove it). We descended to the hot baths (cue very happy japanese person again!) to soothe our slightly aching muscles.
And...the piece of french resistance came the next day on our bus out of town when the volcano was presented against a marvellous azur sky, smoking crater and all. Indeed we could still see the mountain 3 hours later as our bus snaked its way out of XXXXX towards Quilotoa.
That's what travelling gives you - it serves you up a pile of horse manure for starters but then follows it with an exquisite main course (likely to be steak) and dessert (probably chocolate)!
