Photos from Brazil Cataratas

Text written in: English

The small town of Iguazu (also spelled Iguassu or IguaÇu in case you were wondering) is quiet and relaxing.  Aside from having no beach, it has that quaint 'beach town' feel (before it becomes too touristy).  If you visit Brazil, you should definitely fit this place into your itinerary.

Hotel front desk showed us on the town map where the pharmacy strip is and where the restaurant strip is.  Peru and Brazil seem to be big on their small pharmacies (rare to just find a corner store).  As for the restaurant strip, Iguazu is BIG on their large patio beer garden style seating.  It's awesome and just where you want to be when the sun goes down at 9 pm.

Yesterday was our relaxing day in Iguazu Falls - pool, internet, a short walk into town (to buy cold medicine and kleenex) and dinner at the Bier Garten (pizza and Sangria - proven to help a cold!).

Today was our day at the Cataratas (Waterfalls) on the Brazil side.  You may or may not know that the three kilometer stretch of Cataratas is the border between Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay.  The Iguazu Falls are best viewed up high from Brazil and down low from Argentina.  I don't believe there is any actual viewing in Paraguay.

It took less than 20 minutes in a taxi to get to the Brazil Cataratas.  It's a massive National Park with stunning, insanely large waterfalls.  Now I've never seen Niagara Falls but apparently it makes Niagara look like a trickle.

Once through the park gates, we took a double-decker bus through the park (complete with ritzy hotel) which eventually took us to a walking trail.  It's a paved footpath with many, many 'photo op' stops.  Gorgeous.  We must've spent about three hours there - including our stop for sandwiches with the breathtaking view and the sound of endless gushing water.

Capped off the night with more Sangria at the Bier Garten - no surprises there.

PS:  The photos don't quite do the Cataratas justice in terms of size, but you'll get the idea.

PPS:  Happy 38th Birthday Kathryn.  Missing you and thinking of you up North! xo
