After leaving Uyuni at 5am, we started our fourteen hour journey to Tupiza. Only two hours into the journey we came to a grinding halt in the middle of a narrow country road, to find a gravel truck had crashed into a mud brick wall and overturned..... blocking our only road out of Uyuni. So we set about cutting through rivers and floodplanes, occasionally stopping with spades to remove boulders and other obstacles, sometimes slicing through irregation channels searching for the main road. Finally arriving at a dusty village, and exiting back onto the road after an hour or so driving through fields, floodplanes and encountering wild rabbits, llama, alpaca and vercuña.
Finally arriving late evening at Tupiza for a nine hour stopover. After a long drive day it was a case of eat, drink and early to bed.... as tomorrow it's another 5am start and the long drive to the Argentinian border as we journey to Salta.
