Once again, it has been a LONG time! Sorry... I'm a busy girl
Tuesday - We worked on the trail all day. It was really our last day working on the trail. We worked hard to get as far as we could, but we knew we wouldn't be able to finish the trail. It wasn't expected that we finished because the trail was really long, but we got about halfway. It was about a mile in once we were done and had yet another mile to the end.
Wednesday - This was our last day on the trail and we only spent the morning working on it. We got a lot done in the morning and said our goodbyes to the trail and the pretty scenery. In the afternoon we got the discovery kit all put together and finished up on the brochure. That afternoon was our last Wilderness Wednesday. Tom and Sue told us our goodbyes and left us with some inspirational words. They told us that they wanted to move out of the area after the fires, but our group gave them hope.
Thursday - This was our last official work day in Stelzer Park. We didn't have much to do, but I had a few things to wrap up and burn cds so the park could have all the files for the discovery kit and the brochure we made. The park had a barbeque for us at 1 that afternoon. It was a very nice lunch. A girl on my team got sick and really wasn't doing well so during the barbeque some people left to take her to the hospital. That left us not knowing really what to do, but we managed and said our goodbyes to the people that were still there. The people that went to the hospital didn't get back until about 9 that night. It made it a really long day for them. The people who were still there packed up things and cleaned.
Friday - We got up at 6 in the morning to do our PT. We thought Yoga would be nice before getting in the van all day. Our goal was to be out by 7:30, but of course that didn't happen. We pulled out of the park at 8:30. We got to LA and went to the La Brea Tarpits. Some people went in to the museum while me and some others walked across the street to a craft and art museum. It was pretty cool with a lot of ceramics and puppets. After that we went to Mann's Chinese Theater. We got to see all the handprints and footprints of many famous people. We walked around that area and saw the Hollywood sign. Then while Kevin and Grant went to pick up a groups luggage, we were sharing our cargo van, we ate at Roscoe's house of chicken and waffles. It was pretty good food. I don't really like eating chicken off the bone, but it was good chicken and the waffles were really good. We finally got on the road headed to Sac around 4. We hit the grapevine (which is a part of the highway that runs through mountains). And drove through snow! I was driving it first, but we stopped at a rest stop and Nate continued driving for me. We found out the next day that the road had been closed the day before due to the snow. We finally made it back to Sac around 11! It was a long day, but it was neat that we got to stop in LA.
Saturday - In the morning I hung out with my friends from training that I hadn't gotten to see yet. In the afternoon my team had a meeting to go over what our schedule would look like for the next week. We went to Chipotle and got lunch. We've had more money to spend so we've gotten to go out a couple of times! It's always fun to go out to eat and not pay for it! That evening my friends from training and I went downtown to the mall. We walked around down there for a bit and then came back and had dinner at a little mexican place down the street.
Sunday - I got up and went to breakfast. We're on our own, but my friend Alex cooked bacon and eggs for some of us. That was really nice to have a nice breakfast. In the afternoon I worked on loading pictures on my computer. As the day went on I started feeling bad. I know I had a fever a couple times throughout the day. Me and some friends went to blockbuster and rented a couple of movies and went to the store and got some medicine and gatorade. That night my team went out to dinner at Fresh Choice. They have a huge salad bar, pizza, a pasta bar, and an ice cream bar! It's really good and I enjoyed it, but I didn't feel all that great when we went.
Monday - In the morning we got up and had PT. It wasn't too bad. Then I went to sick call. I got a prescription for a bacterial infection in my eye. I have a cold, but the doctor told me to just take something over the counter. My foot has been hurting, but of course I didn't say anything to the doctor about that. I think it has something to do with running. It seems like it hurts only after I run. We had a meeting with our Unit Leader. We just chit chatted about our project and our trip home. I think for teams who have problems it might be a neccesary meeting, but for our team it was kind of pointless. In the afternoon I pretty much layed around with my roommates and read some. That night some people from my team had to go to walmart, so we went to In and Out too!
Tuesday - We had a day project assigned to us. It was working with the Crocker Art Museum in downtown Sacramento. They have a children's program and our job was to make scrolls for the program. The do a lesson and the children have to write a letter on a scroll so we got to prep about 1500 scrolls for them. It involved a lot of glue! On our lunch break we got to go and tour the museum. So that was pretty cool. They had a lot of neat art.
Wednesday - This morning we had PT and I ran fast! I don't know that I ran really fast, but I was the 7th one done, and normally I'm 11th or 12th. I think running on a flat service rather than up the hill and back down helps me a lot. This morning I have a one on one with Kevin to make sure everything is going well for both of us and to turn in all of my evaluations of the last project and my team leader evaluation and a personal one. Then at 1 we have our debriefing. We have 45 minutes to tell the staff what we have been doing over the past two months. We have all our talking planned out and then we're going to show a video that Katy put together. Hopefully she'll get a copy of the video out soon and i can send a copy home. After that we have supplies check. We turn in all our tools and get any new tools or uniform that we might need in our new location. This evening I have a meeting for my team position, service learning. We just meet and share ideas and things we've done with our teams. Pretty easy day, just a lot of small things to do.
Thursday - Today we ran baseline, the 1.5 mile run. I ran it in 13.05!!!! I started at 16:14 and have worked my way down over 3 minutes! I'm proud of myself. My foot hurt after I ran today. I don't know what is wrong with it, but everytime I run it starts to hurt again and then it will go away until I run again. Today we have a free day. I might go over to the bx and get some food. At 3:30 we have our briefing for our next project. It's kind of a formal thing. We have to wear our Ameritux (white polo, black pants, and boots) and it's like a presentation infront of some of the staff. Tonight my team is in charge of cooking for our dinner group, I think it's about 40 people.
