Pamukkale, Turkey

Text written in: English

This used to be quite a amazing place but tourism and too many swimming pools have reduced the amount of water flowing over the travertines. These weird formations caused by calcium solidifying as the hot spring water cools are still quite impressive. The Romans must have thought them cool too as they built a city here (Hieropolis) so there are a lot of Roman ruins around as well, but we didn't spend too long looking around them as we've had enough of ruins for the time being.
