Fond farewells and a long trip ahead

Text written in: English

07 Nov 07 Civitavecchia

Breakfast and time to pay our account for all our ship purchases.  As we surprisingly still had US dollars left we used these to part pay our dues so it won't be nearly so scary when we get the credit card account.

More farewells to those catching earlier flights and we mooched around the ship realising that it was all coming to an end.  A final lunch and good byes to the waiting staff. Rey our favourite breakfast waiter had told us that he had phoned his old buddy and our matchmaker Teddy who had already returned to the Phillipines.  Apparently Teddy has found two husbands for us so we are awaiting their delivery to our home addresses!

Time to collect our suitcases and get on the bus to go to the airport.  Karen needed assistance with putting her back pack on as it was chockers with her Murano glass purchases.  Jo pushed her up the steps of the bus and Karen proceeded down the aisle calling out 'wide load'.  We practised loading the back packs into the luggage shelf trying as best we could to not give away the actual weight.  However some of our fellow travellers were concerned that we would struggle and that the bags would land on their heads that they jumped up to make sure the bags were well and truly stowed!

Landed at the airport and were one of the first to be processed - Jo went first and was happy as larry when she looked at the weight of her case however Karen quietly pointed out that it wasn't fully on the belt and therefore 24 kilos was not necessarily entirely correct!  Karen quickly put her case on whilst Jo's was on the belt and saw the number 49 flash up quickly but the Airline checkerinner didn't seem to notice. So all our worry for nothing - Jo said she wished she had bought more..

Off to the gate to await our departure.  There of course was a gang of us leaving on the same flights so we had company in the terminal.  We sat and chatted with Brian, Christine and Diana for the last time and tried for a coffee one last time.

 Arrivederci Roma
