A last taste of Italian drivers

It is hard to imagine that our fantastic journey is now coming to an end and this is our last port of call.  We decided to take a tour to Capri and Anacapri.  We took the ferry across to the island where we met up with the tiny buses that were to take us.

We continue to be amazed at how over the centuries these towns have been built on sheer rock faces.  And as a consequence the roads are steep, winding and very narrow.  We went upto Anacapri first where we then went on a chairlift up the mountain top for a most fantastic view of both sides of the island.

Jo did some last minute souvenir shopping and bought some caps.  We then took the mini bus back down the steep and winding road to the town of Capri.  Here we had a quick wander to the gardens for spectacular views it was then back to the meeting point - up hill all the way.  We made it back with 15 mins to spare so decided to take the opportunity for a little vino at an outdoor cafe whilst watching the goings on of a film set in progress.  We offered but they didn't want us as extras - there is no accounting for some peoples taste!  They obviously hadn't heard of our reputation and following.  Or perhaps they had....

A rushed glass of wine and time for a cable car ride back to the Marina Grande to catch the jet foil to Sorrento.

Karen of course couldn't resist the temptation of more pashmina bargains and bought a few more.

Back to Sorrento via the jet foil and the tender back to the ship for lunch.  Jo decided to start on her packing however Karen was in denial and tried to avoid the inevitable by sticking her nose in her book.  It didn't last and two hours later both of us had finally packed.  How much our bags weighed was a matter of great conjecture - even Mario our cabin steward was trying to pacify us and convince us that our cases were only around 20 kgs.  Mind you he originally said 30 kgs for Karen's bag when he thought we had the American allowance of 32 kgs.  At any rate it was all too late to worry about it we just have to practise our best pleading looks for the Singapore Airline staff when we get there tomorrow.  Karen is determined to throw herself down on the ground weeping and wailing if necessary!

Compulsory happy hour with the gang as this would be our last evening together.  Went off to dinner for the last supper where the waiting staff will serenade us with their farewell songs.  Jo had splashed out and bought wine again, Gita one of our table buddies donated her bottle of champagne that she won in the casino and Tony our irish comedian shouted the table a glass of Drambuie each to celebrate his lovely wife Joan's birthday.  You can imagine that we by this time had consumed a fair amount of drink and we were about the last to leave the resturant.  Hugs all round to anyone standing still.
