Mt Etna as a backdrop

Text written in: English

5 Nov 07

Naxos, Italy

We awoke to fine weather and panoramic views of a snow capped Mt Etna.  You cannot describe how breathtaking the views are.

Our breakfast waiters continue to rush to serve us, even grabbing our food trays from us before we have finished putting food on them, to then find a table for us.  We are then rushed with offers of juice, tea, coffee.  However we also know that they are very fickle, because they then rush to the next passenger and do similar for them.  However we are convinced that we are the favourites, because we also get cuddles from them.  Even the head waiter manager knows us by name and greets us each morning.

For those who have seen the Walter Matthau and Jack Lemon movies where they are dance hosts on a cruise ship (can't remember the movie name but it is something like Out to Sea), anyway, we reckon that we are their equivalent and the ship should be paying us for the entertainment and social events that we provide!  (I digress)

As you may recall, we have perfected an amazing ability to smuggle contraband alcohol onto the ship - see previous entries.  We now have others doing the same, and they then insist on telling us about it!  Could be that we are leading a silent revolt about the expensive bar prices...

After breakfast this morning we took a transfer coach to Taormina which is high in the hills of Sicily.  The clouds came in as we arrived after our half hour bus trip and light rain fell for about 5 minutes.  That did not deter us though as we were in the midst of yet another pashmina purchase.  The rain stopped, the skies cleared and again we have lovely sun shine and warm weather.

Saw the ruins of the Greek theatre and again had the opportunity for the most mangificent views of the coastline and surrounding mountains.  Just hope our little cameras do the views justice.  Nothing however will take away the memories.

Not sure that we will have another chance to update our site now that the trip is coming to a close - too fast. That being the case, we must now away as there are only 2 more sleeps left on the ship and there are still shops we haven't seen and been to.

Thanks for taking the journey with us.  Stay tuned however as we will finish off our travelog, even if it is a bit delayed.  As we lose Thursday due to crossing the international date line (Karen is not happy about that) we will see our Adelaide connection people after Friday morning.

This continues to be the best trip ever and more than we would ever have imagined.  Don't want it to end, but we think you have already got that message.
