By the time we got back to Porlock Weir it was lunchtime, but we decided to head for Lynmouth first to see if we could get some fish and chips. We took a toll road up and over the headland through some more beautiful forests (didn't feel like England!) and down a very steep hill to Lynmouth. The town is at the bottom of a huge valley where two rivers meet and is very picturesque, and also packed with people today. The morning had started with some lifting mist that looked like clouds, but by lunchtime the sky was clear again and it was a gorgeous afternoon.
We found some delicious fish and chips along the seafront at Lynmouth and enjoyed it sitting on the shingle beach. After a wander around town, we headed back out on the road and found Watersmeet, a house by the confluence of two rivers up the valley from Lynmouth. There are some beautiful waterfalls there, surrounded by an oak wood. We've decided we have to come back sometime as we were there too late in the afternoon and the sun had already gone from the valley, but it was still lovely and shane took some photos.
On the way back we drove over the heather-covered moors. They look amazing in the evening sunlight. We stopped for a picnic dinner at a place with a view before heading back to the b&b.
