When Kestrels fly ...

So the moment was upon us. The moment we had been waiting for. The date had been set for third or fourth week in May...Oh no. All of a sudden we got an email from Robbo via kes saying he´s on route to Mexico two weeks early. Therefore there was a cloud of mystery surrounding the Bird of Prey´s arrival. After a couple of days of confusion (thanks to Costa Rican border control) we were set to welcome our furry friend at the end of the week.

When Saturday came we quickly finished work and headed stright for the bus station. After a lengthy wait we were blessed by the sight of a scrawny, bearded man and we were filled with joy. After a typical lunatic taxi driver escorted us back to our humble abode and the complimentary tour we took to drinking and catching up what Dom and I had missed over the last six months. We were shortly joined by Miguel, Brett and Denise and the fun and games continued late into the night. Highlights included a massive micholada at a local bar and Dom falling asleep and dribbling a little.

As any great Sunday should be we endulged in a feast for breakfast. A local cafe is well-known for its breakfast platters and there was no way that we could resist. After an obligitory horchata we made our way to a local fair, ZaPOPun. Its safe to say it was a bit of a misson to get there as we had to take three different buses. Unfortunately it was the last day of the festival and a lot of the stalls had decided to pack up. LAZY; SLEEPY MEXICAN B*ST*RDS. Despite this hiccup Kes managed to buy two pairs of sunglasses, I bought a t-shirt (of course) and well capitalized on the last day drink offers. We also had the pleasure of a leather clad Mariachi singing sweet lullabies.

On the way back the combination of beers and sun was a little too much for poor Dom who achieved the amzing feat of falling asleep on a bus. Congrats Dom. You are officially an honourary Mexican. The evening's activities involved eating some homemade gorditas at Brett and Denise´s and some free entertainment curtosy of a german band which wasn´t very good.

A usual day during Kes´ visit would involve tea at 11am, a tour of the city or other activities and then a homecooked meal cooked by our guest at around 9.30 accompanied by beers. However some notable occasions were as follows:

- A visit to the Cultural Centre. Its safe to say that thank god its free on tuesday!
- A visit to the three-story commercial centre that is San Juan de Dios where we enjoyed Lonches de la Plancha. A bagette filled with meat, cheese and salad that is fried continuously by pouring fat over the top. Simply a heart attack in a sandwich!
- A takeaway Parraillada from a local restaurant. A platter that supposedly fed two completely defeated all three of us. SO much meat!
- A night out which started with Birria (goat stew), a bottle of tequila between four, a little salsa dancing, photos of Dom on the toilet and very little sleep.
- A play-off quarter final between Chivas of Guadalajara and Monterrey. A great game which ended 4-4 and knocked Chivas out of the play-offs
- A visit to a local bar where we enjoyed beers and being electricuted!
- A day of present shopping in Tonala, a market in the municipal of Guadalajara that turns into a massive outdoor market two days a week.

Our first farewell was over some delicious gorditas near to our house which were unsurprisingly greasy. This was to be only the first farewell of three as we were to be reunited in Puerto Vallarta with the ´rents after a fleeting visit around the coast. After that a couple of days in Guad before making his way north to see the US of A. But plans were meant to be changed...
