Driving in this country is crazy. I swear I've nearly been killed a dozen times on bus journeys. There aren't really any sides of the road, you drive where you want. Add in the fact that cows and buffalo just wander freely on main roads and you're in for an exciting journey.
If you're ever in Laos, I highly recommend tubing in Vang Vieng. You basically sit in a tube and float down a river drinking beers. Along the river there are loads of bamboo bars with rope swings. So you head in for a couple of drinks, have a few shots on the rope swings (which are seriously high, by the way), and then grab another beer to get you through to the next bar. What more do you want on a Tuesday afternoon?
Other than that, Vang Vieng threw up another couple of big nights for me. One night myself and two lads got a lock-in at a bar. At some hour of the night the barman told us we drank him out of all the Beer Lao and all he had left was dark Beer Lao. A couple of hours later he was back saying he had no more beer. I didn't believe him so I checked the fridge. A couple of nights later we met some Irish girls who were in the bar the next night and were told that three Irish lads drank him completely out of beer. So he wasn't lying afterall.
