Tybee Island

I just spent three lovely days on Tybee Island, GA. Tybee is a little beach town just outside of Savannah. The beach isn’t built up. The island is only three miles long. There are a few things to do but everything is very low key. They have a great campground just a short walk to a historic lighthouse/fort which is situated right on the beach. The pier at the main part of the beach is a great place to fish.

All the moving around of the past week made me want to stay put for a few days to relax. All I did was fish and go to the beach or the pool at the campground and tend the fire at night.

Mid-way through my stay two French Canadians from Quebec came to the campground. At night they came to my camp frightened because they saw some animals (probably raccoons) and the battery on their car was dead. I jumped them…. Big Red came to the rescue with some jumper cables and a trusty 12v truck battery!

They decided to join my camp because they didn’t want to run into more animals and my fire would keep them and the bugs away. They are on a journey of their own from Quebec through the states to Miami, then to the Bahamas on a cruise, and then back through the states back to Canada.

We went to the beach and went out to a local bar last night. There was this young guy that the bartender addressed as Mr. Mayor. I asked the guy why they called him Mayor. Turns out he was the Mayor. A cool real, young for a mayor, type dude.  We have a picture from the bar where he is giving us the key to the city. Well, actually he was holding up his car keys pretending that they were the keys to the city but the gesture was appreciated anyway.

Today is started to rain so I thought it best to use the rain as a travel day. I’m heading south to Florida…
