Redneck Riviera w/pics

After two days in the Carolina Beach State Park campground we decided to make our way to the Redneck Riviera.

We took the ferry from Ft. Fisher down to Southport and then drove down to Myrtle Beach

 

I wanted to see what it’s like now that they have torn down the Pavilion (think Coney island amusement park). Although the pavilion is gone the cheesiness is still around. This happens near a Ripley’s Believe It Or Not. Anyway Myrtle is still filled with country bumpkins, which makes me feel at ease since I'm a good ole boy myself.

I plan on going out tonight to check out if the scenery is still pretty as I remember.

We stayed at the KOA campground last night. It’s huge! Those things are equipped with all the amenities of a hotel such as pool/WIFI/laundry room/etc. But they are just completely filled and there is no privacy to be had anywhere. Plus it was $40 just to put a tent down on the ground. No water, power, or anything.

On the flip side. State Park campgrounds have all kinds of no alcohol allowed signs although it doesn’t seem to be enforced. They are way cheaper ($15-$20 per night). The worst thing about the parks is that a lot of them have a closing time where they lock you in and you can’t leave or come back after 10pm. That sucked in Wilmington because we would have gone out at night but we wouldn’t have been able to return to our campsite.

We are now at the Ocean West Motel. A nice little family-owned place on the Kings Highway. For two nights we will heal our wounds and bug bites while soaking up all that Myrtle Beach has to offer.
