My Wedding Day (at Last)

Finally, the wedding was going to happen, six days later than originally scheduled, but it was a go.  So, while the wedding was delayed, only a few of the original guests were not able to make it.  It all worked out for the best.

To start, the weather on August 6th was superb, whereas on the earlier date of July 31st it rained.  What a blessing to have the weather on our side.   The ceremony itself was in a small parish church built in the 1300's, and much of it was still in its original condition.   The vicar was kind and understanding (and a little embarassed, as he had given the wrong advice on not needing a marriage visitor visa).   After a respectful and proper ceremony and homily, we were off to the afternoon reception in a nearby golf club.  We were driven there in a 1950's Morris Minor convertible, which was perfect as the sky was blue and the temperature ever so pleasant.

Jane and her mother had went to extra-ordinary effort to make the various decoration and arrangement for the reception.  The flower arrangements, to the programs, decorations of the hall, wedding cake, food menus were all hand made and crafted, with butterflies everywhere.  Not a detail was overlooked, and it paid off and everything when smoothly and graceously.

They have an interesting protocol for wedding receptions in the UK.  Some guests are invited for the ceremony and the meal reception and others arrive after the meal and stay for the music.  Works out very well and allows guests to find the venue that suits them.

The afternoon went into the evening and before you knew it, it was midnight and the end of a very special, magical and God blessed day, and the start of my married life.  Life is good.

Please enjoy the photos, as they tell the story.

My men, being Anthony (Jane's brother), Lyn (my best man and a fellow Canadian, myself and Sam (Jane's dear friend's son). God bless Lyn, he came all the way from Canada for the wedding. Jane, her father and Seren arriving at the 13th century church. As per tradition, the photographer took the photo, as I had not seen Jane in her wedding dress yet. Signing the marriage register. Classic photo taken after the wedding ceremony, standing in the entrance to the church and about to leave. One of the first photos of the happily married couple. Our friends, who were on the same trip in Africa where I met Jane, let us use their 1950's Morris Minor as the wedding car. In the background is the Welsh countryside and perfect weather. The wedding guests on the lawn of the golf club. Perfect weather and a perfect location. Removing the wedding garter, someone has to do the difficult tasks. Jane's family and the newest addition to the Cross clan. We had a harp player at the reception. Ideal for that special photo. Cutting the cake. Jane and her mother made the cake. My best man and dear friend Lyn. We go back to high school and 1967 (which is before Jane was born). Dear friends are so special. Note, Lyn retired just before the wedding and now looks forward to a life of leisure. The 14th century church in Pennard. Many of the tombstones are so old the writing on them has disappeared. The Vicar reading and we reciting our vows. Finished goods, we are legally married, complete with Marriage Certificate. Our rings, love my band and the tasteful diamond. The younger assistants. The lads on either end are Jane's nephews. Shooting the champagne cork. A very happy bride and groom. Much of the wedding party. The reception arrangements. Jane did not overlook a single detail, and everything was so thoughtfully done. Note the butterflies everywhere.
